From an archaeological perspective, this course taught me how humans worked with the environment to create complex tools, structures, and civilizations. Learning was done through discussion posts, a Google Earth map, E-Timeline, quizzes, and slide presentations. We looked at specific case studies - such as Stonehenge and Catalhoyuk -in an attempt to understand how and why they were built. This course really provoked me to think about "What really makes us human?"

MY SKILLS
Communication
Throughout my undergraduate career I have had countless opportunities to hone my communication skills through discussions, research papers, and presentations. This online portfolio exemplifies my written communication, as it does my ability to communicate through digital media. An example of my verbal communication can be seen in the following video, which is a Data Blitz presentation for my TED Talks in Psychology course (Fall 2018). I introduce my research proposal and its importance to the rest of the class. I have further spoken in front of other audiences as KUSA co-President and as part of study abroad information sessions. As an officer, friend, and teammate, I always work to ease communication between others and consider this one of my greatest strengths.

Adaptability
The process of transitioning from Panama to the United States was only the first of many memorable experiences I have with adaptability. As part of KUSA, we experienced several instances of lacking manpower and requiring others to step up to the plate. When an officer suddenly resigned, we took this opportunity to calmly converse and consult with the other officers. Ultimately, us co-Presidents and our Social chair at the time took on the resigned individual's duties and got the job done. Similarly, when a food fundraiser was days away and we had no location from which to work from, I suggested changing our typical format and doing deliveries instead.

This is my first time creating a website, and my perseverance allowed me to learn the basics quickly and thoroughly. Every time I enter a new country, faced with a new culture and its customs, I am able to quickly adapt. The constant changes and challenges in my life have allowed me to deeply develop this ability, useful for numerous future endeavors.

Leadership
My time in various officer positions allowed me to develop leadership skills taken from experiences at various levels of authority. From simple social chair to co-President and then to Member Relations Officer, I have learned many lessons on how to:

-
Motivate my team and maintain morale
-
Delegate tasks properly and efficiently
-
Remain open-minded to innovative and different ideas
-
Give acknowledgements for a work well done
-
Openly communicate with every member of the team
-
and much more

No matter which position, these are important qualities for one to have and I pride myself in understanding how to implement them as necessary.

Teamwork
My involvement has provided me with many skills, which of course includes teamwork. However, I have seen teamwork flourish the most through dance. As part of both KUSA and the Filipino Student Association at the University of Florida, I have danced for numerous cultural events. Every individual always works hard to learn their own choreography, but we also do our best to help others improve. Sometimes it is me who asks for help, but sometimes I am the one being asked. In this instance, I do my best to encourage and constructively criticize. Consequently, everyone in the team becomes motivated to work harder and put on a great performance. Aside from dancing, playing in my high school's top orchestra, working with the volunteers at UF Shands Hospital, and EMPRESS Interest Group have all given me a sense of what true teamwork looks like and how to create an inspirational environment.
